Long live The Leopard

One of Doncaster’s best known pubs is set to open its doors again months after it shut down – thanks to event bosses in the town.

Doncaster Conferencing, Catering and Events Ltd (DCCE) who run the gigs, conferences and bars for Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust have signed a lease to reopen The Leopard on West Street which closed earlier this year, after decades as one of the borough’s highest profile venues for music.

Michael Hart, chief executive of Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, said: “We are delighted that the company who run the events at our venues has now signed the lease to reopen The Leopard pub.

“DCCE have a fantastic reputation for bringing great music to Doncaster over the years with acts from the Kaiser Chiefs and Kings of Leon to The Strokes and Travis.

“The Leopard had a great musical history and has played an important role in Doncaster for many years and we are keen to see DCCE build on this and bring the area back to life.”

As well as bringing big names to the borough DCCE manage the bars at all of our events, manage our busy conference portfolio.

Chris Hone, from DCCE said: “We are aware of The Star’s Save Our Pubs campaign and are pleased to be adding to its success by signing the lease on The Leopard.

“The Leopard is an established live music venue and pub which will be a great addition to the DCCE family.

“We are looking to work with all pubs in the West Street area to develop a plan which will attract more people to the area and help to grow the economy.

“While The Leopard was predominantly known for live music we intend to broaden the scope to offer comedy and cinema. We will also be looking for offer rehearsal space for local bands and groups.

“Our aim is also to create a great place where people can meet, eat and relax in a good social setting.

“Plans are now under we to redevelop the venue and we are working towards opening the doors to the public at the end of the summer.”
